The Taal Volcano has erupted.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported the eruption of Taal Volcano on Wednesday afternoon.
In an advisory released later afternoon on Wednesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) posted, “Ongoing eruption at Taal Volcano. Details to follow.”
Alert Level 1 remains hoisted over the volcano, the state seismologist added and they are yet to provide further details. It was recorded as a phreatomagmatic eruption
Taal has been under Alert Level 1 or ‘in abnormal condition’ since July 11, 2022, ,and in an announcement on Facebook, the eruption happened around 4:30 pm on Wednesday, October 2.

In the previous days, five phreatic eruptions were reported over Taal in Batangas. It emitted 1,354 tons of sulfur dioxide gas on Monday and the state seismologist also noted the observed “upwelling” of hot volcanic fluids in the Main Crater Lake.
These “weak” events accumulated a total of 17 since September 22.
PRC Chairman and CEO Dick Gordon immediately headed a meeting in PRC National Headquarters regarding the response the agency will do following the reported eruption. He assured that PRC Chapters, assets, and volunteers are ready and prepared to quickly respond to events like this.
Since January, sulfur dioxide emissions remained high with an average of 6,760 tons per day.
The latest eruption, so far, is not as severe as it was in 2020 and 2021. To recall, its deadliest eruption was in 1911 which killed more than 1,300 people. In 2021, it spewed a one-kilometre-high plume of gas and steam prompting thousands of people to evacuate.
Taal sits 70km south of central Manila. This is one of the world’s smallest active volcanoes but eruptions have been seen and proven to be deadly. The volcano is located inside a large lake near the town of Tagaytay in Cavite province.
