What Is Taal Volcano? About The Volcano In The Philippines
TAAL VOLCANO – In this topic, we will now look at things and stuff we need to know about the Taal Volcano of the Philippines.
Also known as Bulkang Taal and Bombou in 1821, it is a complex volcano in the province of Batangas. It has an elevation of 311 meters or 1,020 feet.
The northern half of the volcano is in the border of Talisay town, Batangas, while the southern portion is in San Nicolas. Other cities and towns surrounding the volcano include:
- Tanauan
- Lipa
- Talisay
- Laurel
- Agoncillo
- Santa Teresita
- Alitagtag
- Cuenca
- Balete
- Mataas na Kahoy.
It is the second most active volcano with a total of 34 eruptions. The recent one is in January 12, 2020 and is currently ongoing as of this writing.
Most of these eruptions are fixated on Volcano Island, which is near the center of Taal Lake. The lake fills a portion of Taal Caldera.
Both the volcano and lake are one of the most attractive views in the country. Due to its coverage to populated areas, it was considered a decade volcano.
This means it is one of the 16 volcanoes that is recognized by the International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth’s Interior (IAVCEI) to be worthe of particular study in light of their history of large, destructive eruptions.
