Senators Migz Zubiri and Alan Peter Cayetano speak following the spat.
Here’s what senators Migz Zubiri and Alan Peter Cayetano said about their heated exchange, near fistfight interaction.
Tension rose between Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri and Senator Alan Peter Cayetano at the Senate session hall on Tuesday night, September 24. The senators clashed over a resolution that seeks to include 10 Enlisted Men’s Barrios (EMBO) barangays in Taguig City and Pateros.
This means an increase in councilors in each area for fair representation but Zubiri inquired why this resolution was discussed as this was not part of the agenda. Cayetano authored the measure and the inquiry sparked a debate until things escalated quickly.
The two senators were yelling at each other during the suspension of plenary proceedings and the situation almost became physical.
“What do you want?” Cayetano snapped when Zubiri approached him. Senators JV Ejercito and Pia Cayetano came in between them to prevent further tension and eventually, the two apologized to each other when the session resumed.
In the viral video, Cayetano was unstoppable in throwing words at Zubiri who seemingly had a hard time in finding a timing to air his side. When he did, he was heard saying, “Don’t give me that look. Anong sindak? Tahimik nga ako dito. Gusto mo ipapahiya mo ako ako. What is your problem?”
Zubiri apologized and said that he was just surprised by the sudden concurrent resolution about the barangays which is not indicated on the agenda.
Cayetano also apologized but maintained that the matter needed to be tackled. He expressed, “I apologize to everyone, including Senate President Miguel Zubiri. Technically, may excuse ako kasi I’m on steroids dahil hinihika ako ngayon, but it’s still no excuse so pasensya na kayo.”
For Zubiri, it was a miscommunication, a misunderstanding. He said in the Kapihan sa Manila Bay. “We made up already no hard feelings.”
