Motorist Suffers Eye Irritation After Volcanic Smog Exposure
A Filipino motorist suffered eye irritation due to the volcanic smog from Taal during a motorcycle trip.
Recently, Louelle Roie, a Facebook user, shared a concerning experience about the dangers of traveling through areas affected by volcanic smog, or “vog,” from Taal Volcano. His post garnered various reactions from the online community
During a motorcycle trip from Tuy, Batangas, to Manila, Louelle encountered an unexpected and alarming situation. While passing through Cavite, a region heavily affected by vog, heavy rain began to pour.
Roie put on his raincoat and continued driving, not realizing the potential risk ahead. As he rode through the Silang-Dasmariñas area, he unconsciously rubbed his eyes with rain-soaked hands. Immediately, he felt a sharp itch and stinging sensation in his eyes, which began to water uncontrollably.
The motorist’s eye irritation worsened quickly, as shown in the photos he shared online. Within just ten minutes, his eyes became swollen and increasingly uncomfortable. His unfortunate experience shows the dangers of exposure to volcanic smog, especially when mixed with rain.
The incident reminds everyone, especially those in areas affected by Taal Volcano’s vog, to take extra precautions. If you must travel, make sure to protect yourself by wearing appropriate gear and avoiding contact with your eyes.
It’s also important to keep children and pets indoors, as exposure to volcanic smog can lead to similar health issues.
As Taal Volcano continues to be active, it’s important to stay informed and follow safety guidelines.
The authorities also advised the public to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities in affected areas, and always ensure that you and your loved ones are protected from the harmful effects of volcanic smog.

“Today, I was riding my motorcycle from Tuy, Batangas going to Manila. Ofcourse, Cavite is in route. We all know what is happening right now around Tagaytay with Taal Volcano showing activity. Now, while I was driving around Silang-Dasmariñas; Rain suddenly poured, I put on my Raincoat and continued driving.
At first, it was still fine despite the heavy rain, pero the problem started when I unconciously rubbed my eyes with my hands wet from the rain, instantly I started to feel the itch and yung hapdi sa mata ko. Nag simula na din sya mag luha, kaya I decided na tumigil sa nearest Gas Station para mag hilamos.
The first 3 photos are literally not 10 minutes apart. The fourth photo is my eyes currently as I am writing this post.
Again, DO NOT GO OUT UNPROTECTED. DO NOT LET YOUR KIDS PLAY IN THE RAIN. You may not be from the place I mentioned, but it is still better to be safe. Take care everyone!!!!!”
