Following Extradition Case Win, DOJ Confident To Bring Arnie Teves Back to PH
DOJ – The Department of Justice won the extradition case it initiated in Timor Leste against former Negros Oriental congressman Arnie Teves.
It has been more than a year since the late former Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo died in an attack at his residence in Pamplona. Nine (9) others who were at the house of the late Governor also died from the incident.
Initially unidentified men barged in the house of the Degamos in Pamplona and lodged their motive. The then-Governor was rushed to the hospital but he did not survive the accident. He is survived by his wife, Pamplona Mayor Janice Degamo, and their sons.
The widow of the late Governor Roel Degamo vowed to give justice to the death of her husband and nine other individuals. She also called on the national government for justice over her husband’s death.
Then Negros Oriental 3rd District Representative Arnie Teves is the main suspect in the death of the late former Gov. Roel Degamo and nine others. He denied the allegations against him.
Teves was already in abroad when he was tagged as the main suspect in the death of Degamo. In the previous videos posted on social media, he denied the accusations. He also refused to go home to the Philippines citing concerns about his safety.
The former Negros Oriental Congressman was tagged as fugitive following his refusal to go home to the country and face the multiple charges filed against him. The Department of Justice (DOJ) initiated an extradition case against former Cong. Arnie Teves in Timor Leste.
Teves was previously detained in a jail in Timor Leste but was released and re-arrested again. The Court also placed him under a house arrest citing that he is a “flight risk”. He came to the country in a private chopper.
Several former and current Philippine officials testified in the court proceedings against former Negros Oriental Cong. Arnie Teves. There were also some officials who witnessed in support of his side.
Based on a recent report on ABS-CBN News, the DOJ won the extradition case in Timor Leste against former Negros Oriental 3rd District Rep. Arnie Teves. The justice department is confident that he will be back in the country in July to face the charges filed against him.
Reportedly, late last month, Teves was released from house arrest in Timor Leste. More updates may be posted soon.
