Mayor Alice Guo Sends Letter To Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero
ALICE GUO – The suspended Bamban, Tarlac Mayor apologized to Senate President Chiz Escudero over her statement for the senators.
The authorities have yet to locate suspended Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Guo amid a pending arrest order issued by the Senate. She is faced with allegations over her alleged involvement in the illegal POGO operations in her town.
Mayor Guo attended the previous Senate hearings but skipped the June 26 and July 10 hearings set by the upper chamber. Following her absence at the Senate hearings, she was cited for contempt and an arrest order was released by the Senate.
The Senate’s Office of the Sergeant-At-Arms was ordered to serve the arrest warrant within 24 hours since it was released but there was negative presence of the Mayor in all her registered addresses.
Recently, amid her pending arrest order, Mayor Alice Guo issued a statement where she gave a message to the senators. She advised them to focus on the critical issues in the country including poverty, national security, inflation, and food shortage.
Mayor Guo made it appear in her letter that the Senate is fixated on her. According to her, she is ready to face the accusations against her if there is an evidence at the proper forum.
Following the posting of the statement of Mayor Alice Guo, Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero said that the Mayor cannot tell the senators what to do. Recently, the camp of the Mayor sent a letter to the Senate President as per a report of ABS-CBN News.
In her letter, Mayor Guo apologized to Senate Pres. Escudero saying she did not mean to dictate the Senate on what to prioritize. According to her, she understands that each lawmaker has his/her own job and responsibility to the nation. She stressed that her intention was to give suggestion based on the problems experienced by her constituents in Bamban.
Mayor Alice Guo also expressed her hope that she will be given a chance to defend herself in the proper forum. Based on the report, Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero said that while the Mayor does not appear and follow the mandate of the Senate, he cannot give in to whatever request state in her letter.
Furthermore, Senate Pres. Escudero said that there is no need to stop the investigations on the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators’ hearings amid Pres. Bongbong Marcos’ directive that bans POGOs.
