2 Individuals Lost Their Live During Confrontation with Police Authorities in Tondo, Manila

Two individuals lost their lives after resisting arrest in Tondo, Manila as police were attempting to serve an arrest warrant.

On Thursday evening (July 12, 2024), two men were killed and four police officers were injured during a confrontation in Tondo, Manila.

The Manila Police District (MPD) went to a house in Balut, Tondo to arrest a suspect known as “RJ,” who was facing murder charges. However, instead of surrendering, RJ ran upstairs and jumped onto a neighbor’s roof.

RJ and another man, identified as “Macmac,” started shooting at the police. Police Major Emmark Dave Apostol, Police Corporal Keith Valdez, and Police Corporal Emil Omolon were hit in the lower parts of their bodies.

Police Lieutenant Colonel John Guiagi, the Officer-in-Charge of the District Intelligence Division of MPD and the leader of the operation was injured in his left hand.

The police returned fire, resulting in the deaths of RJ and Macmac. One of the suspects even threw a grenade, but fortunately, it did not explode. Investigations revealed that RJ was involved in several shootings in the city, the latest was just last month.

The police are looking into whether RJ’s killing was related to disputes over illegal drugs, as he was known to be involved in both gun-for-hire activities and drug trafficking.

The police are still searching for other members of the suspects’ group. During the operation, they also arrested a woman who was said to be RJ’s girlfriend. She is facing charges of obstruction of justice for locking the door of her house when the police attempted to serve the warrant.

She claimed that she had only been dating RJ for two weeks and was unaware of his illegal activities.

After securing the area, the police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team detonated the grenade twice to ensure safety. SWAT teams also searched the vicinity thoroughly to make sure no other suspects were hiding.
