Pres. Bongbong Marcos Gives Green Signal on MRF Purchase
MARCOS – Philippine President Bongbong Marcos approved the purchase of the Multirole Fighter Jets to boost the defense of the country.
Truths be told that there are now a lot of questions on national security considering the ongoing territorial dispute between the Philippines and China over the West Philippine Sea. A year ago, the President expressed his pursuit to modernize the capabilities of the Air Force as a “response to the growing complication”.
Despite the Arbitral Ruling which sided the Philippines, the Chinese government continues to assert its claims on the West Philippine Sea. It reportedly claims almost all parts of the disputed island including those that were claimed by other countries.
There were several instances when Filipino authorities were bullied by the Chinese authorities in the area. Recently, China’s “monster ship” has returned to the West Philippine Sea.
The Philippine government has called out the dangerous actions of the Chinese authorities disputed in the West Philippine Sea several times. However, China visibly does not respect the claims of the country.
Amid the ongoing between territorial dispute between the Philippines and China, recently, Pres. Bongbong Marcos approved the purchase of the Multirole Fighter (MRF) Jets. The move of the Philippine Chief Executive is in the pursuit to boost the defense capability of the country.
It was Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner Jr. who made the announcement regarding the purchase of the MRF Jets. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, he made the announcement to members of the Defense Press Corps after the 1st semester AFP Command Conference.
Pres. Marcos was present at the 1st semester AFP Command Conference held at Camp Aguinaldo. Based on the report, with regards to the type of MRF that Philippines will purchase and the number of jets to be bought, there is still no decision about it.
“The president has already approved that intention to buy MRF as to which one wala pa ho desisyon, as to how many, wala pa hong narrating na decision dito,” Brawner expressed.
The AFP Chief of Staff General further stressed that the MRF jets are really needed to boost country’s defense capabilities. He recalled that during the Philippine Air Force anniversary celebration, the capabilities of the FA-50 PH jet fighters was witnessed but it is not enough to defend the country.
“We need to get more jetfighters and multi role fighters ,yung multirole fighters are actually bigger, faster and more lethal than FA-50 PH that we have,” he said.
