PAGASA Says Easterlies to Affect of Parts of PH

PAGASA LATEST UPDATE – The state weather bureau reported that easterlies will bring hot and humid weather with chances of thunderstorms over parts of the country.

On Tuesday (May 21, 2024), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. The easterlies will affect the country’s weather conditions.

PAGASA weather specialist Rhea Torres reported that easterlies will bring cloudy skies and isolated rain showers over the country.

The easterlies will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and/or thunderstorms over the Visayas, Palawan, Kalayaan Islands, and Occidental Mindoro.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience similar weather conditions. Possible flash floods or landslides are expected in these areas during severe thunderstorms.

Hot and humid temperatures with high chances of thunderstorms are still expected to prevail throughout the country. Visayas and Mindanao will experience a scorching heat with isolated thunderstorms likely in the afternoon and evening.

“Mataas ang mga tiyansa ng mga isolated thunderstorms lalo na sa hapon at sa gabi, otherwise patuloy pa ring mararanasan ang mainit na panahon sa malaking bahagi ng Luzon,” Torres said.

Metro Manila will experience a dangerous heat index level of 44 degrees Celsius at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Pasay City while the Science Garden in Quezon City will have 44 degrees Celsius.

Here is the list of heat index in major cities:

  • Metro Manila: 26 to 35 degrees Celsius
  • Baguio City: 18 to 24 degrees Celsius
  • Laoag City: 26 to 33 degrees Celsius
  • Tuguegarao: 25 to 34 degrees Celsius
  • Legazpi City: 27 to 33 degrees Celsius
  • Puerto Princesa City: 27 to 33 degrees Celsius
  • Tagaytay: 23 to 32 degrees Celsius
  • Kalayaan Islands: 27 to 34 degrees Celsius
  • Iloilo City: 28 to 34 degrees Celsius
  • Cebu: 28 to 33 degrees Celsius
  • Tacloban City: 27 to 33 degrees Celsius
  • Cagayan De Oro City: 27 to 33 degrees Celsius
  • Zamboanga City: 24 to 33 degrees Celsius
  • Davao City: 26 to 33 degrees Celsius

Meanwhile, the coastal water condition over Northern Luzon as well as the remaining parts of the archipelago will be slight to moderate.

PAGASA did not raise a gale warning in any of the country’s seaboard.
