Controversial personality Cedric Lee has been found guilty for illegal detention and after surrendering, he maintain his innocence.
Guilty beyond reasonable doubt of serious illegal detention for ransom under Article 267 of the Revised Penal Code are Cedric Lee, Deniece Cornejo, and two others namely Ferdinand Guerrero and Simeon Palma Raz. They are sentenced to lifetime imprisonment or reclusion perpetua.
Lee and Cornejo with two others were found guilty following the incident in 2014. This is with regards to the past incident involving Vhong Navarro. The guilty verdict was reflected on the 94-page ruling by Judge Mariam Biem of Taguig Regional Trial Court Branch 153.
In a previous article, Vhong reacted to the guilty verdict and he expressed his happiness about it. Many people online were also happy and relieved that justice was finally served for the It’s Showtime host.
“Salamat po sa ibinigay niyong justice sa akin na matagal ko nang ipinagdarasal, salamat po ng marami. Of course maraming salamat sa aking legal team …sa hindi niyo po pagbitaw at pagsama sa akin hanggang sa huli,” the Kapamilya host said.
Hours following the guilty verdict, Cedric surrendered. He surrendered to the authorities but despite this, he still insists his innocence. According to him, nothing worse happened that night in 2014 except for the assault part.
“Kung wala yung mga elements, hindi talaga pasok yung crime. The most, yung nagkasakitan lang, di ba? Pumalag din naman siya [Vhong] so nagkasakitan lang,” he said adding that reclusion perpetua is unnecessary especially for the case of Cornejo.
He believes that Cornejo, the one who was aggrieved, doesn’t deserve the sentence.
To recall, the incident happened in 2014 which left the Showtime host in miserable situation. This was a much talked-about topic before and it took 10 years for this guilty verdict to be issue. However, while Lee surrendered, his lawyer will be preparing to make an appeal over the court’s decision.
