Mysterious Deaths of Poultry Animals in Negros Occidental Blamed to Aswang
The mysterious deaths of poultry animals in Himamaylan, Negros Occidental, have sparked fear among the online community.
The term “aswang” refers to a mythical creature in Filipino folklore often depicted as a shape-shifting monster or vampire-like being. It is believed to prey on humans and animals, particularly at night, and is associated with various supernatural abilities.
It is said to prey on humans and animals, sucking blood or eating flesh, particularly of unborn fetuses or small children. The aswang is believed to be active at night and can possess supernatural powers such as invisibility and the ability to fly or move quickly.

On Thursday (March 21, 2024), in Barangay Talaban, located in the city of Himamaylan, a series of strange deaths occurred, leaving several poultry animals dead. The affected poultry owner Noel Moles Bocafigura, confirmed the unfortunate demise of these animals.
Bocafigura urged fellow residents to be vigilant, especially during nighttime, as there might be a creature prowling around that is responsible for the deaths of the animals. He emphasized the importance of being ‘aware’ of such incidents, particularly when there are reports of mysterious killings.
According to Bocafigura, the bamboo fence surrounding the coop was destroyed, and the poultry was found lifeless inside. This has caused fear and concern among the residents of Barangay Talaban.
Similar incidents of animal deaths have been reported in the nearby city of Cadiz, where locals believe that supernatural beings, known as ‘aswang,’ are behind such occurrences.
While investigations into these incidents are ongoing, residents are advised to remain cautious and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
