Range999 To Face Murder Trial
RANGE999 – Cebuano rapper Range999 is set to face murder charges following the death of the foreign NATIONAL he shot during a confrontation on March 17, 2024, as confirmed on Tuesday, March 19, 2024.
“Pre! Pre! Pre! Tabangi ko. Sorry pre. Pre, nakapatay kog taw. I-hatud ko sa [police] station. Pre, mo surrender ko.” Jed Andrew Salera, also known as Range999, conveyed this message to his manager Paul Vincent Paras shortly after fatally shooting an American national Michael George Richey outside a bar in Cebu City on Sunday morning.
Range999 informed Paras that Richey had been disrespectful towards his female friends, even going so far as to touch their buttocks.
Following the altercation, Paras recounted that Salera exited the bar to retrieve his vehicle. He later returned to the bar to collect his companions. According to surveillance footage obtained by the Mabolo police, a blue SUV entered the hotel’s compound around 6:30 a.m. on Sunday.
The vehicle slowed down in front of the bar where Richey was situated. The foreign national approached the driver’s side of the SUV, where Salera was seated. Salera then opened the door of the vehicle, and shortly afterward, Richey fell to the ground.
Immediately afterward, Range999 departed and sought assistance at Paras’ residence.
According to Police Major Romeo Caacoy Jr, the chief of the Mabolo Police Station, Salera’s victim passed away on Tuesday afternoon.
Romeo Caacoy told CDN Digital on Tuesday night that they would be pursuing a murder charge against Salera. Paul Vincent Paras mentioned that the rapper felt remorseful for his actions.
He recounted that Salera sought refuge at his residence in Sunshine Village, Barangay Quiot Pardo, Cebu City, following the shooting on Sunday morning, seeking assistance.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Paras shared that Salera was distraught and experiencing a nervous breakdown, uncertain about his next steps.
Paras expressed his pride in Salera’s bravery in attempting to protect the women he was with, describing them as ‘vulnerable’.
“Lalaki nga dako’g respeto sa usa ka babae, di siya mo biya ug amigo/amiga ni take siyag risk para sa iyang amigo/amiga. Pasalamat gihapon ko nga naa gyud siya ana nga batasan,” Paras said.
Paras’ Facebook post was made before news came out on Richey’s death.
