Megan Young clarified what she did during the Miss World coronation
Miss World 2013 Megan Young released a statement after the bashing she received from the supporters of Miss Botswana Lesego Chombo.
The Kapuso star returned to the international pageant as one of the main hosts. Megan has hosted the pageant several times already. Despite her reign having long ended, fans are still considering her as the “Best Miss World.”
However, in her hosting stint in Miss World this year, a controversy surfaced. Fans of Miss Botswana did not like her gesture of “fixing” the contestant’s hair on stage.
Megan Young’s gesture was called “witchcraft” by some fans of the pageant candidate. She was also accused of attempting to destroy Lesego Chombo’s confidence by allegedly showing that her hair was not real. The Kapuso star became a trending topic on social media because of that.
Following the backlash that she received, Megan released a statement. She clarified that it was not her intention to offend anyone. She also apologized to everyone who was angered by her gesture.
Megan understood and realized that her effort to help was culturally inappropriate. She admitted that she did not foresee the bigger picture.
The Kapuso star also shared that she apologized to Lesego personally and they were able to talk about this already. “We have spoken privately last night at the hotel and I have apologized to Lesego in private,” she shared.
Megan apologized as well to those people who were offended by what she did. “To those who witnessed the incident, I also want to apologize for any discomfort or confusion my actions may have caused. It was a thoughtless and disrespectful act, and I take full responsibility for it,” she said.
The Miss World 2013 stressed that it was not her intention to invade Miss Botswana’s personal space or make her uncomfortable. “I deeply regret my actions and will strive to be more mindful and respectful in the future,” Megan Young said.
