A farmer from Matag-ob, Leyte, lost his life after suffering a cardiac arrest reportedly due to extreme heat.

Heat stroke is a severe heat-related illness that involves a body temperature of more than 40°C. It usually happens when the body’s temperature control system fails after extended exposure to high temperatures and humidity.

It is a life-threatening condition that requires quick medical attention. Heat stroke symptoms include elevated body temperature, changed mental state or behavior, rapid heartbeat, rapid and shallow breathing, flushed skin, nausea and vomiting, headache, and even seizures.

Heat stroke is a condition that can strike without warning, particularly in hot and humid weather. It needs to be treated right once to avoid complications like brain, heart, kidney, and muscle damage.

Typically, medical intervention to stabilize the condition of the patient is combined with fast cooling of the body and fluids.

To lower the risk of heat stroke in hot weather, it’s important to take precautionary measures such as drinking enough water, avoiding extended exposure to high temperatures, and looking for shade or air-conditioned spaces.
