Man Fatally Shot by Security Guard in Ermita, Manila After Alleged Rampage
A man who went on a rampage in Ermita, Manila was fatally shot by a security guard to put an end to the chaotic situation.
The furious man who was identified only by his alias, Bogart, reportedly engaged in a confrontation before the shooting incident.
Eyewitness Felix Laurio recounted that before the shooting, Bogart had a heated exchange with another individual, during which Bogart allegedly struck the person multiple times with a bladed weapon for reasons yet unclear. Despite attempting to escape, Bogart eventually fell.
“Hinabol ng matanda, eh ‘di na siguro kaya ng biktima dahil malaking mama din sya, tumawid pa siya at umupo doon, pinuntahan din siya, hinabol, tinaga tsaka sinaksak,” said Laurio.
Security personnel from a nearby hotel rushed to intervene as the situation escalated. However, with the man’s aggression showing no signs of subsiding, the guard made the important decision to use his firearm as a warning.
Moments later, the suspect allegedly approached the guard, raising fears of another attack. Fearing for his safety, the guard reportedly fired, hitting the suspect in the chest, resulting in his death.
According to Police Captain Dennis Turla, head of the Homicide Section of the Manila Police District (MPD), the guard provided initial aid to Bogart before he was taken to the hospital.
As of this writing, the victim of the alleged attack is still recovering from his injuries. “Masasabi natin na sobra yung galit niya sa sobrang dami nung taga na inabot niya,” the police stated.
Two bullet casings were recovered from the crime scene, with the MPD-Homicide unit now taking charge of the investigation. The guard who is under investigation has declined to make a statement.
