Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Catanduanes, December 14, 2023
EARTHQUAKE – The Phivolcs recorded a 4.2 magnitude quake in Catanduanes today, Thursday, December 14, 2023.
Following the 4.4 magnitude earthquake that hit Surigao del Sur yesterday, another significant quake was recently recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) in the area. According to the agency, the quake that hit Catanduanes today had a magnitude of 4.2.
The earthquake today that struck Catanduanes, Thursday, December 14, 2023, at 03:45 a.m., was tectonic in origin.
According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Catanduanes was located at 13.62°North, 125.50°East – 121 km South 82° East of Gigmoto. It had a depth of focus of 041 kilometers.
Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. According to the quake-recording agency, no intensity was recorded at the epicenter of the quake as well as the nearby areas. No instrumental intensity was recorded as well.
