Police Arrests 37-Year-Old Man for Using Fake Social Media Accounts & Bouncing Checks
MANILA, PHILIPPINES – A 37-year-old man using fake social media accounts to lure his victims was arrested for three Estafa cases.
The suspect identified as Aaron Macapagal voluntarily surrendered to authorities on Thursday afternoon (November 16, 2023) in Pasay City, facing multiple charges. He was allegedly caught with bounced checks.
According to the La Loma Police Station, Macapagal is accused of three cases of estafa, one count of illegal possession and use of false treasury or bank notes and other instruments of credit, and two counts of violating the Bouncing Checks Law.
Macapagal complied with the arrest warrant because, as per the warrant, he cannot post bail for one estafa case due to an existing service of sentence.
Lt. Col. Romil Avenido, the head of the La Loma Police Station, revealed that the suspect used fake social media accounts to deceive victims in San Fernando City and Angeles City in Pampanga.
“Ang pagkakaalam natin, matagal nang nagtatago ito. Matagal nang hinahanap ng mga na-agrabyado niyang mga biktima. Dahil nga limang warrant of arrest ang na-issue sa kanya so makikita natin na marami siyang nabiktima na mga tao doon sa Pampanga.” Avenido said.

The suspect admitted to the illegal activities, stating, “It came to a point po before nag-fail po ako sa business ko and nasampahan po ako ng mga kaso sa Pampanga. I’m willing to face it naman po. So, yun po yung talaga ngayon — na totally plano ko linisin name ko kaya po at least thankful na rin po ako kung bakit nakuha na rin po ako.
