Under the GSIS Disability Benefit 2023, a member may turn to the state-run social insurance agency when unforeseen incidents that lead to disability take place. A disability may prevent the member from working thus losing his/her source of income.

The loss of the following is covered under the said GSIS benefit offer:

  • any finger
  • one arm
  • one foot
  • any toe
  • one hand
  • one leg
  • one or both ears
  • hearing of one or both ears
  • sight of one eye
  • complete loss of sight for both eyes
  • loss of two limbs at or above the ankle or wrists;
  • permanent complete paralysis of two limbs
  • brain injury resulting in incurable imbecility or insanity

With regards to the amount that may be extended to the GSIS member, it is a case-to-case basis. Here is the simple process in filing for a claim to GSIS:

Step 1 — Check the Eligibility Requirements.

There are eligibility requirements under the GSIS Disability Benefit 2023. Here are the qualifications set by the government agency for the filing of claim:

  • in the service at the time of disability;
  • has paid at least 180 months contributions prior to the disability
  • if the member is separated from service, he/she must have posted at least 36 monthly contributions within the five year period preceding the filing of the claim.

Step 4 — Wait for the Release of your Money.

Wait for an update from GSIS. The money will be disbursed based on your chosen mode of releasing.
