In the Philippines, one of the biggest state-run social insurance institution with millions of members is the Government Service Insurance System. It is more popularly called GSIS. Most of its members are individuals who are have worked or are currently working in government offices.

There are GSIS members who are no longer working in the government but have maintained active and updated accounts with the state-run social insurance institution. It is done through contributing monthly savings to the government agency.

Under the GSIS Disability Benefit 2023, a member may turn to the state-run social insurance agency when unforeseen incidents that lead to disability take place. A disability may prevent the member from working thus losing his/her source of income.

The loss of the following is covered under the said GSIS benefit offer:

any finger
one arm
one foot
any toe
one hand
one leg
one or both ears
hearing of one or both ears
sight of one eye
complete loss of sight for both eyes
loss of two limbs at or above the ankle or wrists;
permanent complete paralysis of two limbs
brain injury resulting in incurable imbecility or insanity

With regards to the amount that may be extended to the GSIS member, it is a case-to-case basis. Here is the simple process in filing for a claim to GSIS:

Step 1 — Check the Eligibility Requirements.

There are eligibility requirements under the GSIS Disability Benefit 2023. Here are the qualifications set by the government agency for the filing of claim:

in the service at the time of disability;
has paid at least 180 months contributions prior to the disability
if the member is separated from service, he/she must have posted at least 36 monthly contributions within the five year period preceding the filing of the claim.

Step 2 — Prepare the Documentary Requirements.

Step 3 — File Claim to GSIS.

There are several ways to file for a claim to the Government Service Insurance System. Here are the options that you may consider:

- Go to a branch of GSIS nearest to you and submit all your requirements for the GSIS Disability Benefit 2023 application.

Online Process
- Fill out the application form and prepare your documentary requirements in JPEG or PDF files.
- Email your files to your designated email address with the subject containing the following information:

- Wait for the following:
  - Email aAcknowledgement from GSIS
  - Tentative Loan Computation and Loan Conformity
  - Notification of incomplete and/or non-compliant documents (if applicable)
