Fisherman Sustained Injuries After Shark Attack in Pangasinan

A fisherman in Bolinao, Pangasinan sustained severe injuries after reportedly being attacked by a shark while working at sea.

The shark attack happened while the fisherman was engaging in fishing activities at a portion of Ilocos Norte’s coastal water, located 74 kilometers away from Bolinao, Pangasinan. Unexpectedly, he was attacked by a shark, resulting in a severe injury to his left thigh.

Due to the urgent need for medical attention, the Bolinao Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office was called upon to provide assistance. MDRRMO personnel immediately administered immediate first aid to the fisherman’s wound.

“Sakay ng banca ang biktima at iba pang mangingisda na nagtungo sa Ilocos Norte nang biglang atakihin ng shark kaya nagkasugat ng malaki sa kanyang hita at inuwi pa ang laman ng kanyang hita,” MDRRMO rescue team said.

After receiving emergency medical treatment and physical assessment, the victim was transported by ambulance to the nearest hospital for thorough evaluation and further medical care.

“Pinick-up na namin ang biktima sa Luciente 1, Bolinao at binigyan ng first aid,” the agency said.

Officials confirmed the shark attack on the fisherman. The incident raised concerns among fishermen and the general public, prompting authorities to issue a stern warning to prevent similar accidents.

The authorities recommend exercising caution and implementing safety measures to prevent such accidents. It is important to have proper knowledge of potential risks and to implement safety measures while at sea.
