Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Davao Occidental, September 8, 2023

EARTHQUAKE – The Phivolcs recorded a 5.1 magnitude quake in Davao Occidental today, Friday, September 8, 2023.

Following the 4.8 magnitude earthquake in Occidental Mindoro a few days ago, another significant quake was recently recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) in the province. The quake hit Davao Occidental. According to the agency, it has a magnitude of 5.1.

The earthquake today that struck Davao Occidental, Friday, September 8, 2023, at 03:20 a.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Sarangani Island in the municipality of Sarangani.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Davao Occidental was located at 04.44°North, 127.78°East – 280 km South 66° East of Sarangani Island. It had a depth of focus of 149 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake but there may be aftershocks. According to the quake-recording agency, no intensity was recorded at the epicenter of the quake as well as the nearby areas. Instrumental Intensity I was logged in Malungon, Sarangani.
