Kind Netizen Goes Viral for Giving Local Children to Access Books Conveniently and Enjoyably
A kind netizen goes viral online for offering “Libreng basa, libreng tinapay” to the local children in the community.
A Facebook user named Lawrence Cusipag has shared the photos of a community library he set up outside his home in Caloocan City. The post quickly circulates online and elicits reactions from the internet users.
Cusipag started the community library alongside his sibling back in December 2022. He provides an opportunity for local children to access books conveniently and enjoyably.
“May isang pagkakataon kasing nakita kong parang nahihirapan ‘yung kapatid ko magbasa mag-isa, lalo na at nasa grade 3 na siya. Kaya nilabas namin ‘yung mga libro niya sa tapat ng bahay at sabay-sabay sila nagbasa ng mga kapitbahay,” Cusipag said.
Lawrence shared the inspiration for their community library project, recalling a time when he witnessed his younger sibling struggling with reading alone, despite the fact that he was in third grade. As a result, they decided to take the books outside and ask their neighbors to read with them.
The kind netizen’s simple advocacy earn positive response from the children who find joy in reading. He even established a weekly story-telling session. Eventually, the kids took the initiative to borrow books and bring them home, ensuring they were returned afterward.
“Masaya ang mga bata na magbasa, kabaliktaran sa alam ng karamihan. Tuwing Linggo dati ay nag-sstory telling session kami. At minsan tuwing hindi ako available dahil busy sa work, sila na mismo ang kusang nanghihiram ng libro at iuuwi, pero ibinabalik din naman,” Lawrence claimed.

The latter expressed his happiness at witnessing the children’s enthusiasm for the books.
“Masaya ako dahil natutuwa sila sa mga libro. Para sa akin ang kritikal na pag-unawa ay magsisimula sa paglalagay ng sarili mo sa posisyon ng ibang tao, at nakakamit namin ‘yung ganung pagkakataon tuwing nagbabasa kami ng mga kwento sa libro,” he added.
