Davao Cong. Paolo Duterte Recalls Dad Rodrigo’s Decision to Allow Marcos Sr.’s Burial
PAOLO DUTERTE – The Davao Congressman spoke on how the act of his father, former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, to allow the burial of the late former Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Sr. at the Heroes’ Cemetery was repaid.
Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte remains detained under the custody of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Netherlands. It has been a year since Duterte was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport last March 11, 2025.

Pres. Bongbong Marcos and the Philippine government earned massive criticisms over the arrest and the transfer of the custody of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte to the ICC. On the same day that he was arrested, he was flown to Dubai en route for The Hague.
Malacañang defended the President saying he did not commit betrayal. According to Palace press officer undersecretary Claire Castro, the government acted on the arrest of the former President in lieu of its commitment with the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol).

Recently, amid the detention of the former President in The Hague, former chief presidential legal counsel Salvador Panelo claimed that the Philippine government can allegedly take back the custody of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte now if it wants to. Panelo is one of the six (6) Filipino lawyers that were recently added to the legal team of Duterte.

Based on a post, a mass was recently held in Davao City for the safe return of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte to the Philippines. Recently, a year after the former President was arrested, his eldest son, Davao Cong. Paolo Duterte, recalled the “act of goodwill” of his father to the Marcoses. According to him, the Marcos Jr. government allegedly committed betrayal and picked “political vengeance over gratitude”.
“It was my father who allowed the late Ferdinand Marcos Sr. to finally be laid to rest at the Libingan ng mga Bayani—a decision he made in the spirit of reconciliation, healing, and respect for history,” the younger Duterte said.

According to Davao Cong. Paolo Duterte, one day, accountability will be supposedly demanded from those who allowed the arrest and the transfer of the custody of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte to the ICC to happen.
“History will remember how that act of goodwill was repaid,” the Davao Congressman said.

The late former Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Sr. was laid to his final resting place at the Libingan ng mga Bayani (Heroes’ Cemetery) during the tenure of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte. Then, it was even a controversial turn of events.
Previously, during his term, former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte aired out a question to the protesters of the burial of Marcos Sr. at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
