SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President claimed that the alleged anger of Filipinos will not supposedly die down until former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte is back in the Philippines.

It has been a year now since former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte was arrested by the Philippine authorities who assisted the Interpol (International Criminal Police Organization). Last March 11, 2025, the former President was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport upon his arrival from Hong Kong.

Duterte was detained at the Villamor Air Base for several hours and was flown out of the country on the eve of March 11. His custody was transferred to the International Criminal Court and he remains detained under the ICC in The Hague, Netherlands now.

Recently, as countless Duterte supporters marked the one year since the former President was arrested, presidential sister and Senator Imee Marcos filed a Senate resolution urging the executive department to disclose all the details regarding Duterte’s arrest. Amid the political turmoil in the country, she aligned herself with the Dutertes.

Sen. Imee Marcos and Vice Pres. Sara Duterte are close to each other. The Vice President has always been vocal that her friend is the Senator who apologized to her for convincing her to run alongside her brother, Pres. Bongbong Marcos.

Marcos Jr. is heavily-blamed over the arrest and the transfer of the custody of his predecessor to the ICC. Previously, Malacañang defended the President and junked the betrayal accusations. According to the Palace, the arrest was in lieu of the country’s commitment with the Interpol.

The arrest and the transfer of custody of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte did not sit well with his family and supporters. Recently, based on a post of GMA News, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte attended a mass organized to pray for the safe return of the former President to the Philippines.

Based on the post, the mass was held at the San Pedro Cathedral in Davao City. Vice Pres. Sara Duterte spoke anew on the arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte. She maintained her stand that it was allegedly an “extraordinary rendition”.

“It is unthinkable that a government, no matter the political differences with the administration, would send a citizen to a foreign jurisdiction to be detained and tried for crimes against humanity,” the Vice President said.

Furthermore, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte also claimed that the Filipino people are allegedly angry over the arrest and the transfer of the custody of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte to the ICC. According to her, the anger will allegedly die down if her father will be returned to the country.

Recently, amid the confirmation of charges hearing, former chief presidential legal counsel Salvador Panelo claimed that the Philippine government can allegedly tale Duterte’s custody immediately from the ICC if it wants to.
