Elijah Canlas shared this about his brother JM Canlas
Actor JM Canlas was supposed to attend the Cinemalaya XIX: ilumiNasyon filmfest, award-winning actor Elijah Canlas said but this did not happen anymore because he died.
The world of showbiz in the Philippines was shocked a week ago when reports surfaced that JM, at the tender age of 17, faced his death. This broke the heart of many netizens, especially those who saw the potential in him to go further in his acting career.
It was revealed previously, that Elijah’s brother JM struggled with mental health. This added to the sadness of the public.
After JM’s death, Elijah Canlas shared an emotional post. Amid his grieving, he received support from his girlfriend Miles Ocampo who never left his side at the wake.
A week after that devastating happening to the Canlas family, Elijah and his other brother Jerom are still mourning. They attended the ongoing Cinemalaya XIX: ilumiNasyon filmfest at the PICC, based on the article in PEP. Their younger brother was supposed to be with them.
Elijah and Jerom were joined by Iya Villafuerte, the girlfriend of JM and last August 11 was their sixth monthsary. With a bittersweet tone, Elijah said about Iya, “Ako ang date ni Iya today.”
Jerom is the Cinemalaya 2023 full-length feature Huling Palabas. During the gala last August 9, he talked about his brother’s death. “Noong nakaraang linggo, yung kapatid ko pong si JM… ahhh, hindi na po napanood ang pelikulang ito,” he shared.
The assistant director also said that JM would always watch the edits with him and the online screenings. Jerom shared that his younger brother asked him if he could watch the film already.
“Sabi ko po, ‘Sa screening na! Sa gala screening na!’ Pero hindi po siya umabot,” Jerom said. He said that he is sharing this to the public to remind everyone to check the people around them, especially those who struggle with mental health.
