JUST IN: 3.7 Magnitude Earthquake Rocks Eastern Samar

Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake in Eastern Samar, July 19, 2023

EARTHQUAKE TODAY – The Phivolcs recorded a 3.7 magnitude quake in Eastern Samar, Wednesday, July 19, 2023.

Following the 4.6 magnitude earthquake that hit Sulu a few months ago, another significant quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The quake hit a part of Eastern Samar. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 3.7.

The earthquake that struck Eastern Samar today, Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at 10:50 a.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit General Macarthur.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Eastern Samar was located at 11.23°North, 125.50°East – 005 km South 65° West of General Macarthur. It had a depth of focus of 038 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. According to the quake-recording agency, the following intensities and instrumental intensities were recorded in these areas:

Intensity III

  • Tacloban, Leyte

Instrumental Intensities:

Intensity I

  • Basey and Marabut, Samar

Intensity II

  • Dulag, Leyte

Intensity III

  • Quinapondan, Eastern Samar
