Baby Shark Boy Returns as a K-Pop Idol
Ten years after becoming famous as the young boy in Pinkfong’s viral “Baby Shark Dance” video, Park Geonroung is returning to the spotlight—this time as a K-pop artist.
Park was only seven years old when the video was released on June 17, 2016. The song quickly became a worldwide sensation and eventually made history as YouTube’s most-viewed video. It has now surpassed 17.2 billion views, making “Baby Shark” one of the biggest internet phenomena of the past decade.
Now 17, Park is preparing to make his solo K-pop debut on August 20, 2026, using the stage name Baby Shark Boy. His debut single, “WAVE,” is a Korean-language digital song that he helped write. The track also features Joohoney, a member of the popular K-pop group Monsta X.
Park’s return comes as Baby Shark marks the 10th anniversary of the viral video that made him famous. In 2025, he appeared again in Baby Shark anniversary content, showing the difference between his childhood appearance and his teenage years. The reunion sparked nostalgia among fans who remembered him from the original video.
For Park, the new project is a chance to build his own identity beyond the viral children’s song. After growing up in the public eye, he is now stepping forward as a young musician and songwriter.
The Pinkfong Company, which continues to support the project, will also release a documentary called WAVE: A Boy’s Record. It will look at Park’s journey from appearing in the Baby Shark video as a child to preparing for his music debut.
Although his future activities have not yet been confirmed, his debut marks a major transition from child star to aspiring K-pop artist. After a decade of being known as the Baby Shark boy, Park Geonroung is finally ready to introduce himself through his own music.
