2 Men Illegally Selling Firearms on Social Media Nabbed; Police Accomplice on Hunt
Police authorities arrested two (2) men after allegedly being caught selling firearms using social media platforms.
Two individuals, allegedly members of a gang that illegally sells weapons on social media, were apprehended in a police operation. Authorities are also seeking a colleague who has been identified as an active police officer.
According to the GMA News report, operatives from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group – Rizal meet the suspects at a municipal fire range. The operatives are on the lookout for a police officer who appears to be an accused accomplice of two criminals.
When the undercover police officer saw them, he took out his firearms for sale before fleeing, leaving his two colleagues behind. On the day of the firing day, it was the officers’ colleagues who demonstrated.
However, one of them appeared to be suspicious of the deal and attempted to flee. The CIDG and the Special Action Force made the decision to apprehend the two individuals.
According to the article, the arrested individuals are Jeffrey Dimaano and Joey España. Authorities seized a submachine gun, two handguns, ammunition, and magazines from the suspects.
The two suspects have been charged with violating Republic Act 10591, also known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act. Police Corporal Carmelo Frias, attached to Marikina Police Station 1, has been identified as the wanted officer.
