PAGASA Says ITCZ to Affect PH Weather Condition
The state weather bureau PAGASA reported that Intertropical Convergence Zone will bring cloudy skies and scattered rains over some parts of the country.
On Thursday (June 22, 2023), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. The Intertropical Convergence Zone will affect the country’s weather condition.
The ITCZ will bring cloudy weather condition with scattered rain showers, and thunderstorms over Palawan, Visayas, and Mindanao.
The Intertropical Convergence Zone will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Central Visayas, Southern Leyte, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, and Caraga.
The localized thunderstorms and ITCZ will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.
Meanwhile, the coastal water condition over eastern section of Luzon and the rest of the country will be slight to moderate, according to the weather bureau.
PAGASA announced that the El Niño Phenomenon, also known as the dry spell, is about to occur in the country. Currently, the country is under an El Niño Alert, but once the agency releases the El Niño advisory, it signifies the official onset of the dry spell.
According to PAGASA’s acting Administrator, Dr. Esperanza Cayanan, they are currently awaiting the fulfillment of atmospheric criteria before formally declaring the arrival of the El Niño season.
During the dry spell, below-normal rainfall and dry conditions are expected in certain parts of the country. This may result in decreased precipitation and water scarcity, which can adversely affect agriculture, water supply, and other sectors dependent on adequate rainfall.
While some regions will experience below-normal rainfall, the western parts of the country may encounter above-normal rainfall, especially during the southwest monsoon season or “habagat.”
