Joey De Leon Earns Criticisms Over Latest Joke About ABS-CBN Franchise
The “Henyo Master” Joey De Leon drew flak on Twitterverse over his latest joke about the franchise of ABS-CBN network.
On Twitter, the Eat Bulaga presenter and comedian responded to a netizen’s tweet on how he “threw shade” on ABS-CBN over their franchise issue in 2020. The “Ang Poet Nyo” is also suffering from the same fate, according to the post.
“Joey de Leon several times threw shade “kami may franchise”. Now he’s experiencing the same for at least one day,” the post reads.
The netizen was referring to De Leon and his Eat Bulaga co-hosts leaving their producer Television and Production Exponents Inc. (TAPE). In his response, De Leon said: “Totoo naman talaga ‘yun pero nawala rin…si Francise M. Gets?”
Many netizens were unimpressed by the comedian’s joke regarding ABS-CBN’s franchise issue, which included a wordplay on the name of his former co-host, the late great rapper Francis Magalona. Several social media users did not find the joke amusing, and some chastised De Leon for pulling Magalona into the controversy.
“what? no one gets what your saying?? and please show respect its not a joke at all,” a netizen said.
“Joey de Leon is still defiant to the fates. Still not humbled by karma,” another netizen said.
“you are not funny. give it up. wag mo nang idamay si francis m,” a Twitter user lamented.
Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon, the main hosts of the longest-running noontime show Eat Bulaga, announced their departure from Television and Production Exponents Inc. (TAPE) on Wednesday. Following the unexpected announcement, de Leon stated cryptically on Instagram that they are not signing off.
In his post, de Leon said that they are just taking a day off. He wrote, “We’re not signing off … we are just taking a day off!”
