Police Authorities Arrest Taxi Driver After Refusing to Use Meter For Passenger
A taxi driver was arrested after allegedly refusing to use the meter for a passenger coming from vacation and even chased after the police in Taguig.
According to a couple with the aliases “Ed” and “Madz”, the driver charged them P3,500 for the fare. The two had just come from a vacation and were only going to be dropped off in Antipolo.
They wanted to save money since a ride-sharing app charges P700, while they paid only P500 for the taxi ride from Antipolo to the airport when they left.
However, from the start, the driver’s actions were suspicious. He took the stub given by the dispatcher, and the couple couldn’t see the meter because the driver’s cellphone covered it.
While “Ed” was thinking of a solution, he saw a police officer, so he drove through there. Cpl. Carmina Villena of the Bonifacio Global City police station quickly responded.
The incident led to a brief chase, but the suspect was eventually caught. He denied the accusations against him. He explained that his taxi’s route only covered Metro Manila and did not include Antipolo.
Multiple criminal charges, such as grave coercion, theft, unjust vexation, and disobedience to a person in authority, will be filed against the driver.
Meanwhile, traffic violations such as disregarding traffic officer, reckless driving, and discrimination of a passenger will also be imposed on him.
