Man Allegedly Passes Away After He Got Bitten by Dog & Eating Dog Meat
After being bitten by a dog and eating dog meat, a man from New Lucena, Iloilo, died of suspected rabies.
Last May 1, 2023 a man from New Lucena in Iloilo fell ill and was admitted to the hospital. Unfortunately, he passed away on May 5 (Friday). According to reports, the man had eaten dog meat and had also been bitten by a dog before the incident.
The man is known to slaughter and eat dog flesh, according to Dr. Ma. Cristina Reala, the Municipal Health Officer of New Lucena. According to their investigation, the most recent occurrence of him butchering a dog occurred in April, and he was bitten by a dog in March.
“Kaso hindi siya nagpa-inject (ng anti-rabies) kahit na sinabihan siya nag mapa-inject. Natatakot daw kasi siya magpa-inject at hindi rin namin alam kung saan siya nakagat,” Reala said.
According to the man’s wife, he had an unfortunate encounter with a dog that resulted in him getting bitten. She she revealed that he had also consumed dog meat. The woman also stated that her late partner had playfully bitten their young child who is only six years old.
The officials state that the victim experienced fear of water and wind when he was brought to the hospital before he succumbed to rabies.
The Municipal Health Office of New Lucena released a warning stating that rabies can be contracted through the bite of an infected dog as well as through the consumption of infected dog meat.
In response to this, the victim’s relatives and those who had partaken in the consumption of dog meat with him have been vaccinated against rabies.
