John Estrada talked about his antagonist role in ‘Batang Quiapo’
Seasoned actor John Estrada said that he is choosing whom he wants to be a “kontrabida.”
John has done a lot of different roles for TV and movie projects. Sometimes, he would do antagonist but there are times he would also do “bida” roles, as well as supporting roles. His most recent TV project is Batang Quiapo.
In the said series, featuring the tandem of Coco Martin and Lovi Poe, John played the character of Rigor.
Based on the article in The Philippine Star, viewers would describe John Estrada’s character as “violent and lacking compassion.”
In a recent interview, the seasoned actor said that receiving this kind of reaction is actually a positive thing. “Dahil artista kami, if you’re called for that kind of role and maraming nag-react, nagalit, that means you’re effective as an actor,” John said.
On the other hand, he said that he hopes he will not be typecast to this kind of character. Then, John said that his portrayal of Rigor excels because he is acting with Coco.
The seasoned actor also has the right to choose a project in which he plays a “kontrabida.” “I’m not gonna be plastic in saying na gagawin ko ‘to para sa lahat ng bida ko,” John said. He also said that with his years in the entertainment industry, he can say that he can already have this kind of choice.
“I think I have the right also to choose kung sino pagko-kontrabidahan ko,” the actor said. Then, John Estrada shared what Coco Martin told him. The latter said that even the “kontrabida” in Batang Quiapo has a heart.
