Muntinlupa Public Schools Impose Blended Learning Method Due to Hot Weather

HOT WEATHER – As temperatures rise in Metro Manila, 28 public schools in Muntinlupa will undergo blended learning.

The Schools Division Office-Muntinlupa under the Department of Education (DepEd) announced on April 28 that the blended learning modality will be implemented in all 28 public elementary, junior, and senior high schools in Muntinlupa from May 2 to June 2.

“Blended Learning composites face to face at asynchronous modalities,” Schools Division Superintendent Evangeline Ladines said.

According to the DepEd’s notice in July 2022, blended learning “refers to a learning delivery that combines face-to-face with any or a mix of online distance learning, modular distance learning, and TV/Radio-based Instruction.”

The Muntinlupa City Department of Disaster Resilience and Management reported that the heat index in Muntinlupa reached 37 degrees Celsius on April 27, with an air temperature of 32.88 degrees Celsius and relative humidity of 57 percent.

Heat index “is a measure of the contribution of high humidity with abnormal high temperature in reducing the body’s ability to cool itself,” according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) under the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

The SDO Muntinlupa encouraged the public to contact school officials and teachers for information on blended learning. Mayor Ruffy Biazon previously stated that the safety of students and school personnel is a priority of the city government.
