BI Intercepted 5 Filipino Human Trafficking Victims Allegedly Going to Singapore
The Bureau of Immigration (BI) intercepted five (5) Filipinos who are allegedly victims of human trafficking going to Singapore.
According to BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco, BI officers at Davao International Airport prevented five Filipinos from boarding their flight to Singapore on suspicion that they were victims of human trafficking. According to reports, the second check indicated that the travelers’ final destination was in Dubai.
They will meet with a man named “Acmed,” who used to work for one of the passengers who was apprehended. To avoid traffickers, the BI director stated that it is critical to first verify employers with the Department of Migrant Workers.

Tansingo claims that Filipinos have been enslaved abroad without sufficient food or remuneration and that some have even been physically and mentally mistreated. Tansingco reiterated his recommendation to anyone interested in working abroad to ensure that the employment offer is authentic and that there is a proper government labor office.
Meanwhile, six Filipino victims of human trafficking have returned home after fleeing their employers in Laos and becoming embroiled in an illegal activity sponsored by a syndicate. Tansingco stated that the returning Filipinos arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2 on April 6 on Philippine Airlines flight PR741.
The victims were recruited to work as chat support agents in Thailand after leaving the country on various occasions. Instead of being sent to Thailand, they were taken to Laos and forced to work for syndicates. They were allegedly forced to work for a company that specialized in love scams targeting Asians.
