According to the GMA News report, the PNP documented 11 vehicular accidents with four deaths, as well as 57 drowning incidences with 62 deaths. General Rodolfo Azurin Jr., chief of the Philippine National Police, encouraged passengers and motorists to take extra measures by adhering to traffic laws and speed restrictions to avoid vehicular accidents.

He also recommended the public keep an eye on their youngsters while on family trips. He also urged people not to drink alcohol while swimming in order to avert drowning. Azurin stated that the deployment of people will now focus on bus terminals, seaports, and airports due to increased activity and mobility of the traveling public in these regions.

According to the PNP, this year’s Holy Week was “generally peaceful and orderly,” owing to the strict implementation of its nationwide-coordinated police operations Oplan Ligtas Sumvac 2023. It also highlighted a 14.69% decrease in crime rate for eight priority offenses from January 1 to April 8 compared to the previous year’s record.

“However, the crime environment still showed a significant change as the 8 focus crimes decreased by 14.69% from 10,954 incidents in 2022 (January 1 to April 8) to 9,345 incidents in 2023 for the same period,” the PNP said.
