Degamo Case Suspects Plan to Seek CHR Help over Alleged Pressure from Police
DEGAMO CASE SUSPECTS – Three (3) suspects in the death of the Negros Oriental Governor claimed that the police forced them to pin down Congressman Arnie Teves.
The probe on the killing of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo continues. Several suspects are in the hands of the authorities. One of them implicated Negros Oriental 3rd District Representative Arnie Teves to the case.
According to one of the suspects, the Congressman is allegedly the mastermind behind the plot for Degamo’s death. The Negros Oriental 3rd District Representative who is currently in abroad denies involvement on the death of the Governor. He stressed that he and the Governor are both victims in what is happening.
Teves’ travel clearance expired last March 9. He refused to go home to the Philippines citing concerns for his safety – even if the authorities assured to extended security to him. He stressed that the pool of army was not even able to protect Degamo.
The House of Representatives gave Teves until March 21 to show up at Batasang Pambansa and reveal his side but he did not appear. The House voted to suspend him for 60 days from his congressional seat.
According to Teves’ camp, the Congressman has requests to House Speaker Martin Romualdez in coming home to the Philippines. However, based on a report on ABS-CBN News, not all of the said requests can be granted now.
Amid the investigation, three (3) Degamo case suspects reportedly claimed that they were pressured by police to pin down Cong. Arnie Teves as the mastermind. These suspects were arrested during the raid in the sugar mill compound partly owned by Teves’ younger brother, Pryde Henry Teves.
Based on the report, the three (3) Degamo case suspects plan to seek help from the Commission on Human Rights (CHR). One of these suspects is whom the authorities allegedly got the photos of the Degamo family and the Governor’s house map.
