Governor Roel Degamo’s Wife Hopes for Speedy Justice on Husband’s Death
GOVERNOR ROEL DEGAMO’S WIFE – Pamplona Mayor Janice Degamo issued a statement on the death of the Negros Oriental Governor.
The Degamo family and countless people in Negros Oriental are grieving the unexpected death of Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo. Several families also grieve the loss of their loved ones during an attack lodged against the Governor at his home in Pamplona last March 4 (Saturday).
At least eight people including an ally of the Governor and some civilians died due to the attack. Several men wearing pixelated uniforms entered their compound and shot the Governor and the people there. The Governor was rushed to the hospital but he died during the treatment.
According to Governor Roel Degamo’s wife, Pamplona Mayor Janice Degamo, he was working on a Saturday when the attack happened. After what happened, they looked back and realized the instances wherein it seemed like someone is tailing them.
Gov. Roel Degamo is survived by his wife, Mayor Janice Degamo, and their two (2) sons. Recently, Governor Roel Degamo’s wife released a statement over his death and the passing of several other people.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Mayor Janice Degamo expressed her hope that speedy justice will be given over the death of Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo and eight other people who died due to the attack. She stressed that the killings in the province has been their struggle and there were already complaints filed before the Senate prior to her husband’s death.
Speaking on TeleRadyo, the Mayor believes that her husband’s death could have been prevented if the happenings in their province were given attention early on.
“‘Yung iba hindi pa rin makapaniwala sa kakayahan ng mga ito. Nagkakaroon ng media blackout and ‘pag ‘yung mga pangalan nila ang sinasabi, the people [do not talk because] madidisgrasya,” she said.
The PNP expressed that they are on the final touches of the investigation. Degamo’s political rival, Congressman Arnie Teves, was named by one of the suspects as the mastermind behind his slay. He is currently in the United States.
