Call Center Agent Airs Dismay After Scammed in Online Cellphone Purchase
A call center agent went to the Sta. Ana Police Station after being scammed in an online cellphone purchase.
Over the past few years, online shopping has gained immense popularity, with more and more people opting for the convenience and ease of buying products online. However, this has also led to an increase in online scams and fraudulent activities, leaving many customers frustrated and disappointed with their online shopping experiences.
Jayson (a pseudonym), a 31-year-old call center agent who resides in a boarding house in Barangay San Antonio, Agdao District, Davao City, immediately went to the police station to file a blotter report after he received a bar of soap or detergent instead of the cellphone he ordered online.
According to Jayson, he ordered the cellphone online and the seller did not accept cash on delivery (COD), so he was forced to pay in advance.
The seller promised him a 50% discount from the original price of P15,590, which made him immediately send a payment via mobile cash remittance, amounting to P7,795, to the seller who claimed to be from Marikina City in Metro Manila.
The seller assured him of free shipping and Jayson waited for five days for his parcel to arrive. When he received the parcel, he found out that it contained a bar of soap instead of the cellphone he ordered.
Jayson then tried to contact the seller but could not reach them. This incident serves as a lesson to Jayson and others who may experience similar situations to be cautious and to report any fraudulent activities to the authorities.
