Update on Governor Roel Degamo Case Suspects

DEGAMO CASE – The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced that four (4) more suspects surrendered to the authorities.

Last March 4, the people of Negros Oriental lost their governor, Roel Degamo, to an attack lodged at his house in Pamplona. Men wearing pixelated uniform entered the gate of his compound and lodged their motive.

Aside from the Governor, his ally and several civilians who were there to ask for help were killed in the attack. Pamplona Mayor Janice Degamo, his wife, called to the national government for justice over the death of the Governor.

After five (5) hours since the attack at the compound of the Governor, three (3) suspects were nabbed by the authorities in the mountaneous part of the province. One (1) of them accused Negros Oriental 3rd District Representative Arnie Teves as the alleged mastermind behind the killing of his political rival.

Recently, the Department of Justice (DOJ) revealed that four (4) more suspects in the Degamo case surrendered to the authorities. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla revealed that the four (4) suspects who surrendered are former soldiers.

The suspects surrendered through the military and they are set to be turned over to the Justice Department. According to Remulla, the suspects arranged for their surrender and most of them are not anymore active in service.

“Most of them are not anymore active, may tumulong sa anim na enlisted person, may active military man na tumulong sa ‘min na kunin ang surrender,” the DOJ Secretary said.

Reportedly, the authorities are still searching for two to three more suspects in the Degamo case but majority of the suspects are already in their custody.
