PNP Speaks on Investigation over the Death of Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo

PNP – The Philippine National Police assured that they have done everything in the investigation over the death of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo.

The people of Negros Oriental mourn the untimely death of their governor, Roel Degamo, and several others following an attack as his home in Pamplona last March 4 (Saturday). The Governor was working with his officials and there were some civilians who were there to ask for help at his home when the incident happened.

According to Pamplona Mayor Janice Degamo, the wife of the Governor, someone knocked at the gate and one of the guards opened it to check who was there. In videos that circulated online, men who were wearing pixelated uniforms entered the compound of the Governor and lodged their motive.

The suspects were able to get away from the incident. Gov. Degamo and several other victims were rushed to the hospital but he did not make it. After five (5) hours since the incident, three (3) suspects were caught by the authorities. Unidentified suspects have reportedly given some information that will lead to the finding of the mastermind behind the incident.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) believes that the remaining suspects in the death of Gov. Roel Degamo are still in Negros Island. Currently, there are tight securities and checkpoints in the province.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN news, the PNP is nearing the end of its investigation over the death of Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo. According to special investigation task group (SITG) Police/Lieutenant Colonel Gerard Pelare, they have already identified an alleged mastermind in the killing of the Governor.

The PNP SITG is currently looking in the forensic analyses of the getaway vehicles and firearms used in the incident. Pelare also said that they have already identified their owners.

“We have done everything… ginagawa na lang is final touches of investigation,” he said.
