Imee Urges Brother To Place Negros Oriental Under State Of Emergency After Degamo Assassination
DEGAMO SLAY – Senator Imee Marcos urged her brother President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to declare a state of emergency in the entire province of Negros Oriental after the assassination of Roel Degamo.
On Saturday morning former Governor Roel Degamo was killed in an armed attack at his private compound in Pamplona, Negros Oriental while he was distributing aid for 4Ps beneficiaries. He was 56.
Along with Degamo, eight other persons passed away, and 16 more suffered injuries. A few hours after Degamo’s murder, three getaway cars used in the crime were discovered at an empty lot in Barangay Cansumalig, Bayawan City, and some suspects were also detained. Police in Central Visayas confirmed on Sunday.
Early on Sunday, police discovered powerful weapons stashed in a bushy area of Sitio Punong in the same barangay. There were four assault rifles, one RPG with ammo, four bandoliers fully loaded with plates, and one rifle case.
Three pairs of combat shoes, two bullet-proof vests, one grey sweater, and two combat uniforms were also present. In addition to one 5.56 caliber rifle with six magazines, the groups performing the hot pursuit operation also found other magazines of various calibers.
Based on a report from ABS-CBN, Sen. Imee Marcos urged her brother President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to declare a state of emergency in the entire province of Negros Oriental. In a press conference after arriving in Dumaguete on Sunday morning, Marcos expressed her anger at the murder of Degamo. The late governor supported her brother in the May 2022 presidential election.
“Talagang masama ang loob ko… Nananawagan ako na ideklara na sa lalong madaling panahon ang state of emergency sa entero probinsya ng Negros Oriental…”
“Kailangang matigil at mahuli itong mga ito. Hindi lamang iyong mga hitmen, o iyong pumatay. Kundi iyong mga mastermind, iyong mga pay master nila, at sino man ang nag-conspire para mangyari ito,” she added.
Imee Marcos added that the declaration of an emergency was a reflection of the views of the people of Negros Oriental. In a separate interview with ABS-CBN News, she said that while the remaining suspects in the murder of Degamo were still at large, some province-wide areas, particularly Bayawan City, ought to be put on lockdown.
