Based on a report from ABS-CBN, Sen. Imee Marcos urged her brother President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to declare a state of emergency in the entire province of Negros Oriental. In a press conference after arriving in Dumaguete on Sunday morning, Marcos expressed her anger at the murder of Degamo. The late governor supported her brother in the May 2022 presidential election.

In a separate interview with ABS-CBN News, she said that while the remaining suspects in the murder of Degamo were still at large, some province-wide areas, particularly Bayawan City, ought to be put on lockdown.
