Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Davao Occidental, February 24, 2023
EARTHQUAKE TODAY – The Phivolcs recorded a 6.6 magnitude quake in Davao Occidental today, Friday, February 24, 2023.
Following the 7.3 magnitude earthquake that jolted a part of Davao Occidental a few weeks ago, another strong quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The quake hit a part of Davao Occidental. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 6.6.
The earthquake that struck Davao Occidental today, Friday, February 24, 2023, at 04:02 a.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Sarangani Island.
According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Davao Occidental was located at 03.32°North, 128.10°East – 377 km South 50° East of Sarangani Island with a depth of focus of 114 kilometers.
Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. The following instrumental intensities were recorded in these areas:
- Intensity I
- Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental
- Maitum, Malapatan, Sarangani
- Koronadal City
- General Santos City
- South Cotabato
- Intensity II
- Glan, Kiamba, Sarangani
- Tupi, South Cotabato
