Police Arrests Man Who Demands Ransom From Owner of Car He Had Stolen in Makati City

MAKATI CITY – The police authorities arrested a man after he demanded a ransom from the owner of a car he had stolen.

The male suspect had himself arrested after demanding a ransom of P250,000 from the owner of a car he had stolen in Makati City and is now facing charges of robbery extortion.

According to Makati City Police Chief PCol Edward Cutiyog, the victim had parked the car at his cousin’s house in Barangay San Lorenzo almost a month ago. When he returned, the car was missing, and he later found out that the vehicle had been given to the suspect by his cousin, who was reportedly in Japan at the time.

Ransom

Instead of returning the car, the suspect allegedly demanded P250,000 from the victim. The victim then reported the incident to the police, who set up an entrapment operation at a restaurant in Makati City.

The suspect was arrested after accepting the boodle money. In a follow-up operation, the victim’s car was also recovered.

The suspect’s defense was that he thought the victim’s cousin was the real owner of the car and was planning to sell it to him.

Ransom

“Sabi niya yun raw po ay nabili niya sa kanyang pinsan, kaya ko naman po tinanggap kasi po noong pinadala sa akin yung sasakyan nandoon po yung mga IDs at saka po yung deed of sale po nila at binigyan din po ako ng authorization na gamitin po yung sasakyan. Kaya hindi ko rin po alam na may problema po yung papeles,” he reiterated.

The Makati Police continue to investigate the incident and are also looking into the possible involvement of the victim’s cousin in the crime.
