JUST IN: 4.8 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Quezon

Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Quezon, February 20, 2023

EARTHQUAKE TODAY – The Phivolcs recorded a 4.8 magnitude quake in Quezon today, Monday, February 20, 2023.

Following the 7.3 magnitude earthquake that jolted a part of Davao Occidental a few weeks ago, another strong quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The quake hit a different part of Quezon. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 4.8.

The earthquake that struck Quezon today, Monday, February 20, 2023, at 11:09 a.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Jomalig.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Quezon was located at 15.34° North, 122.59° East – 076 km North 21° East of Jomalig with a depth of focus of 002 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. Intensity II was felt in Quezon City and the following instrumental intensities were recorded:

  • Intensity I
    • Malolos City and Plaridel, Bulacan
    • Mercedes, Camarines Norte
    • Gapan City, Gabaldon, Nueva Ecija
    • Infanta, Alabat, and Guinayangan, Quezon
  • Intensity II
    • Dingalan and Baler, Aurora
  • Intensity IV
    • Polillo, Quezon
