Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Masbate, February 17, 2023
EARTHQUAKE TODAY – The Phivolcs recorded a 4.6 magnitude quake in Masbate today, Friday, February 17, 2023.
Following the 7.3 magnitude earthquake that jolted a part of Davao Occidental a few weeks ago, another strong quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The quake hit a different part of Masbate. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 4.6.
The earthquake that struck Masbate today, Friday, February 17, 2023, at 05:38 a.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Batuan.
According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Masbate was located at 12.36°North, 123.73°East – 009 km South 37° West of Batuan with a depth of focus of 008 kilometers.
Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. The quake-recording bureau said that it is an aftershock of the 6.0 magnitude earthquake that hit Masbate yesterday. Based on the record released, the following intensities were felt in these areas as well as instrumental intensities were recorded:
