UNDERGROUND TUNNEL INSIDE NEW BILIBID – Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Boying Remulla claims that the digging inside the New Bilibid is a search for Yamashita Treasure.

Currently, there are several issues surrounding the matters inside the New Bilibid Prison. It is the world’s biggest jail facility but the mega penitentiary holds more than it capacity. The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) previously released several inmates as part of decongesting the mega penitentiary.

The authorities previously expressed that more inmates will be freed in November and December. DOJ Sec. Boying Remulla previously ordered the checking of inmates to determine those who have finished serving their sentence.

A few days ago, the authorities found an underground tunnel inside the New Bilibid. According to BuCor Officer-in-Charge Gregorio Catapang, the tunnel is not an official project. It was found near the residence of the prison bureau chief and is estimated to be 13 meters-deep.

A backhoe was seemingly used in digging the hole. According to the official backhoe operator, he was only told to drop the backhoe at the parking area. It is also where he can get it if he needs it.

Catapang said that the backhoe is from the bureau’s funds but the digging is not under the project of the bureau. They are investigating the matter.

Recently, DOJ Sec. Boying Remulla spoke on the underground tunnel inside the New Bilibid Prison. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Justice Secretary claimed that BuCor Chief Gerald Bantag told him sometime in August or September that they are hunting for the Yamashita Treasure.

“I told him to stop it… I told him huwag mo na gawin ‘yan. Ridiculous nga e. Tsaka, you’re wasting government time and money,” he said.

Based on the report, the underground tunnel was first divulged by Catapang who is now leading BuCor. In an interview, Bantag claimed that the digging was for the construction of a swimming pool since he is a scuba diver. He put down the allegations that it is an escape tunnel.
