Christmas is thought to be a time when crime spikes because thieves look for opportunities to commit theft, especially when so many people are out shopping. Fajardo revealed that during the past 11 months, crimes had fallen nationally.

From January 1 to November 13, according to Fajardo, the police reported over 34,000 index offenses. Based on the report, this amounts to a drop of 932 instances or 2.66 percent, she added.

While crimes against property include robbery, theft, and the theft of cars and motorcycles, index crimes include murder, homicide, bodily harm, and r6pe. Fajardo attributed the decline to stepped-up operations and increased police presence, which included hubs of activity.

She also expressed gratitude for the public’s cooperation. During the Christmas season, when crime incidences rise along with increased economic activity and mobility, the PNP hopes to maintain these advances, according to Fajardo.

Police officers who will be behind on their work schedule between Christmas and New Year’s only need to report to the closest police station so they can spend time with their families.
