Teacher’s Group Urges DepEd to Ease Workloads of Public School Teacher
The teacher’s group “Alliance of Concerned Teachers – Philippines” is urging DepEd to ease the workload of public school educators.
ACT Philippines spokesperson Ruby Bernardo renews their call on the Department of Education to reduce the workload of teachers in public schools and cut the actual teaching time to four hours daily.
Bernardo described the non-stop teaching for six hours daily as “simply inhumane” aside from extra workloads that sometimes exceeded six hours. She said that DepEd is maximizing them with such practice.
The group representative asked the agency to give public school teachers more time to compute grades, check outputs, prepare lessons and monitor the progress of the students. She said most teachers are already exhausted from teaching and would spend more time performing additional tasks.
“It is equivalent to 6 to 9 classes handled daily for 40 minutes to one hour class time, depending on the subject taught. Dapat i-konsidera rin na ang mga klaseng ito ay bumibilang mula 45 hanggang 60 estudyante o higit pa. Sobrang piga na sa pagod ang ating mga guro pagkatapos ng maghapon na pagtuturo, at ang nalalabing dalawang oras ng trabaho sa isang araw ay napupunta pa paggawa ng mga reports at non-teaching duties,” Bernardo said.
Several ACT party-list representatives filed House Bill No. 545 seeking additional compensation for public school teachers after exceeding from four hours of actual teaching.
