School in Quezon Holding Classes in Cockpit Arena Ordered by DepEd to Stop

The Department of Education has ordered the school in Mulanay, Quezon to stop holding classes at cockpit arena.

Previously, hundreds of students from San Isidro Elementary School in Mulanay, Quezon had no choice but to attend their classes at a cockpit arena after storms and earthquakes caused damage to the school building.

The teachers were even using the middle part of the arena as their faculty room. The cockpit has been transformed into a learning facility after Mulanay Mayor Aris Aguirre showed the condition of the school.

According to Aguirre, he received information from the officials of San Isidro Elementary School that the DepEd district head ordered to stop conducting the classes in the area.

“Sinabi po sa akin na hindi na raw po ginagamit ‘yung sports arena at pinigilan po sila ng district head na nakakasakop po sa kanila, So humihingi po sila ng tulong sa akin kasi sa palagay po nila, mas kumportable po at mas safe po ‘yung mga bata sa loob ng sports arena,” Aguirre said.

The town mayor said that DepEd instructed the teachers to conduct classes in tents or canopies. Hybrid learning using modules can be used temporarily while school buildings were on-repair. However, the parents prefer the classes to be held at a sports arena.

“Ang advise ko po sa kanila ay sundin po nila ang panuntunan ng DepEd. Kung ano po ang sinabi sa kanila, ‘yun po muna ang sundin natin. At gagawa po tayo ng paraan. Baka pwede po tayong makakausap ng iba’t ibang matataas na opisyal ng DepEd at muling payagan po na magklase ulit sa sports arena,” Aguirre added.
