Monkeypox Philippines: DOH Announces Detection Of 4th Case

In an update about the monkeypox Philippines, the DOH confirms 4th case detected.

MONKEYPOX PHILIPPINES – The Department of Health (DOH) reported the confirmation of the 4th case of monkeypox in the Philippines.

Last July 2022, the first monkeypox in the Philippines has been detected based on a previous article. The infected patient was a 31-year-old Filipino from abroad and was under strict isolation in their house when he got discharged.

And on august 20, the health department announced another two confirmed cases of the viral disease which made the number of confirmed cases in the country to three. The second case was a 34-year-old person who has a record of travel to countries with confirmed cases.

The third case was a 29-year-old with a travel history to a country with confirmed cases. Both the patients showed positive polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test results for monkeypox.

And just recently, the DOH announced the 4th case – a 25-year-old Filipino with no records of any travel to other countries that have confirmed cases. The case is accordingly being cared-for now and is now in an isolation.

14 close contacts have been identified. In the statement, it has been clarified that the four confirmed cases are unrelated to each other.

Meanwhile, according to the World Health Organization, monkeypox is now a global health concern.

Mostly, this rare disease caused by the monkeypox virus can be spread through skin-to-skin contact with people who have rashes or open lesions. It cannot spread through the air. The symptoms may include fever, lymphadenopathy or kulani, and rashes.
